The founder
Raimundo Dimas and the Boi Besouro
Since 1992 Boi Bumbá Mangangá has stood for the pride and tradition of the Coaban neighbourhood, the Javarizinho. It was founded by fisherman Raimundo Dimas, of northeastern Brazilian origin, was born on alley 50 and won the heart of all Benjamin Constant.
Boi Besouro, the floodplain boi, is white with a green star on its forehead, a symbol of the strength and resilience of the fishermen and farmers who face the Javarizinho floods every year.
What began as fun in the street forrós gained recognition and made Mangangá the top champion of the Benjamin Constant Folk Festival, with titles won over more than three decades.

1992
Born on alley 50
Fisherman Raimundo Dimas, of northeastern Brazilian origin, creates the boi on alley 50 in the Coaban neighbourhood, the Javarizinho.
1990s
From street forró to the whole town
What starts as fun in the street forrós wins the neighbourhood and then the heart of Benjamin Constant.
2000s
The Besouro reaches the arena
The boi starts competing in the Benjamin Constant Folk Festival and begins collecting the titles that make it the top champion.

Thirty years of the green star
Three decades after alley 50, Mangangá is an official part of the municipal cultural trilogy.
